As we all know, using words and phrases alone can not express the exact meaning completely, and only sentences can express the relatively exact and comprehensive meaning. Therefore, teachers should adopt sentence-pattern teaching method, so that students could master a shortcut to learn the sentences. Thousands of sentences can be derived from this teaching method, and then according to their own speaking topics, they can choose the suitable words to express themselves at ease.

4.4 Retelling
Oral expression generally includes two forms: to repeat the words or text of others, and to express their own views and ideas. For the beginner of English speaking, repetition is the premise of freedom expression.
I taught English in a senior middle school last summer vocation. After that, the language slowly began to change. For a long time the language in America stayed the same, while the language in England changed. In the same way, Americans still use the expression ?I guess? (meaning ?I think?, just as the British did 300years ago.
  At the same time, British English and American English started borrowing words from other languages, ending up with different words. For example, the British took ?typhoon? from Chinese, while the Americans took ?tornado? from Spanish.
In 1828 Noah Webster published the first American dictionary. He wanted to make American English different from British English, so he changed the spelling of many words. That?s why the words colour, centre and traveller are spelt color, center and traveler in American English. Except for these differences in spelling, written English is more or less the same in both British and American English.
  The differences are greater in the spoken language. For example, American say dance/d?ns/, and in southern England they say /da:ns/. In America they pronounce not /nat/; in southern England they say /not/.However, most of time people from the two countries do not have any difficulty in understanding each other.
First of all, I give the students the text to read silently. Then, the traditional method of Chinese students and their actual needs should be taken into account. I inspire students to catch the main ideas of each paragraph and related phrases.
